Building Site Accidents

Construction work carries inherent risks, and even experienced workers can suffer serious injuries due to unsafe conditions or third-party negligence. When accidents occur, injured workers may be entitled to compensation for the physical, emotional, and financial impact on their lives. Construction site incidents often fall into several common categories.
Falls and Height-Related Injuries
Falls from ladders, scaffolding, or elevated surfaces, as well as injuries caused by falling objects, are among the leading causes of serious harm on construction sites. New York’s Labor Law §240, commonly known as the Scaffold Law, requires proper safety equipment to protect workers from elevation-related hazards. When these protections are not provided, responsible parties may be held liable.
Demolition-Related Accidents
Demolition work presents unique dangers, especially when heavy machinery or explosives are involved. Without adequate safety measures and training, workers may suffer severe injuries such as burns, fractures, head trauma, or worse.
Slip, Trip, and Fall Hazards
Unsafe surfaces, poor lighting, loose debris, damaged stairways, and slick floors contribute to frequent construction site injuries. These incidents can lead to sprains, broken bones, head injuries, or long-term mobility issues.
Fires and Explosions
Construction sites often contain flammable materials, faulty wiring, and hazardous chemicals. When safety protocols are ignored, fires or explosions can cause serious burns, respiratory injuries, permanent scarring, or fatal outcomes. Liability may extend to contractors, engineers, or product manufacturers, depending on the cause.
Crane and Forklift Incidents
Heavy machinery such as cranes and forklifts requires skilled operation and proper maintenance. Equipment defects, improper training, or operator error can result in catastrophic injuries or loss of life.
Compensation for Construction Site Injuries
A construction accident can disrupt every aspect of your life. When negligence is involved, injured workers may pursue compensation for medical costs, lost income, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and other damages. In fatal cases, surviving family members may be eligible to file a wrongful death claim.
